Can any of my Potter-inclined f-list tell me roughly when/which month the first Hogsmeade weekend usually takes place? I was thinking November?  Maybe October?  I vaguely recall Hallowe'en in Hogsmeade but there is every chance that was a fic and not, in fact, canon.

Also, did anyone greet this news with a bit of a shudder and stern shake of the head?  Just me then?  A HP prequel... When I read this I thought it would be Marauders era and I punched the air, as that's what comes to mind when prequel is mentioned.  But it's Harry-living-under-the-stairs era.  Glorious. (/sarcasm) It took me several tries to get through the first part of Philosopher's Stone with 'La la la Harry under the stairs with spiders, it's such a sad situation that you must feel for him instantly and bond and blah blah blah.'

Anyway, I don't think it be as twee or kid-aimed as the first bit of P.S but all the images in my head are of abuse!fic.  The Child Called It-Potter style.  I don't know why, but it's all I can think of.  I'm sure it'll be Harry's first bit of magic as a child or whatever because at 800 words how much can you really fit in?

EDIT:  I is dramatically wrong.  Huzzah! [info]carawj pointed me towards this article and it's set three years before Harry's born and concerns James and Sirius.  Muchos thankos.

Spent the morning with the puppy and the hose.  Bad idea.  Now soaking.

Scotland are kicking off a meaningless friendly with half a squad of players in 45 minutes (4.30 on a Friday is such a bizarre time for a friendly).  I feel that we may get gubbed.  I don't particularly want to watch right now because I'm busy writing (hence the Potter related research) but I will.  It is Scotland, after all.

Oh, and does anyone want to read Image of You in Russian?  Soon coming in German.  Shame I can't speak/read a word of either but still quite cool.

Awesome

I read up on Mars and the mission on Friday for fun and learned lots of new words as well as lots of mathematical concepts I'm am not capable of computing.  I'm like an Amiga that way.  It'll take weeks to process, you might as well just stick in Tetris.  I read an article earlier on this evening which said the scientists put the chance of a successful landing at less than 50% which kinda blows.  All that time, all that money for nothing.  But they did it.  Bravo.  Now - go find me some aliens.

Not generally into sci-fi, space, astronautary etc but I do like knowledge.  The dubious monetary value of NASA is something I've long struggled with but something like this is quite exciting.

Reading jPod by Douglas Coupland right now and thoroughly enjoying the random, crazy, hilariousness of it all, littered with geeky pop-culture references.

I need a new power cable for my laptop.  I have to flex the cable just so and not move it a fraction less the computer cut out.  I don't know why it doesn't just revert to battery power.  Sigh.  I have a stupidly rare connector which you can't get in the universal power adaptors.  So it's forking out a bit more money than I have.  But cannot function without laptop.  Sad truth.

I am ridiculously tired but I need to finish my proposal by tomorrow.  Didn't bloody help I choose to spend hours editing and posting the final chapter of IOY. :)

Oh, and also voted in the LJ advisory elections.  Procrastinated useless time reading manifestos so I could make an informed decision - [community profile] legomymalfoy, [personal profile] rmand [profile] randomposting that would be.  [community profile] legomymalfoy for fandom needs and a strong set of ideas.  Looks like she's winning as well with [personal profile] rm not too far behind.  Can I pick em, or can I pick em?

So first with an IOY update - Tonight or more likely tomorrow.  I may like to sleep on the final changes.  The final final changes.  *sigh*

Secondly, congratulations to Russia for winning Eurovision.  You have succeeded in winning the cheesiest, saddest contest in the known universe.  But I do love it when in the mood.  I was busy doing actual stuff tonight so I didn't sit through 2 hours of bad songs then an hour of voting.  I enjoyed it thoroughly last year when I collapsed coming in from work and couldn't physically move from the sofa.  I put on the subtitles so I could know what they were singing in english.  Much fun had by me.  Previous years I've ended up a Eurovision parties.  Also fun.  I've not heard any of the songs at all this year, though I'm sure they're utter guff with one or two which may actually be good but didn't have the geographical location and political friends to win.  Britain -I hope- got nil point.  I hope. [EDIT: Joint last on 14 points.  Yippee!] Perhaps then we'll try putting out something other than specially-tailored eurotrash shite dance pop.  Which will never win.  Idiots.  Ireland probably didn't try again this year because they're too skint to put on another Eurovision.  When someone told me this I was sure they were just referring to the Father Ted episode, but apparently it's quite true.

(FYI, did you know that the President of Ireland makes more money than the US President?  It's roughly $425,000 to Bush's pittance of est. $400,000.  And the last two Irish Presidents have been women who've collectively been in office since 1990.  I'm informed by an Irish citizen that the job is mostly ceremonial with tie-breaker/balancing powers - I'd so be up for that)

Thirdly -
Rant time )

Yippee.

Doing the dance of joy.  Posted IOY16 and mapping out last chapter.  Almost free!  This means I could move my arse on that play I need to write, I'm really excited about and been planning for a few months but just can't because my head's in weddings and wands.

(Damnit, I still need to finish my Grey's series don't I?  Not free yet..)

In other news, my guilty little pleasure Gossip Girl was excellent last night.  I spose I'm not really guilty about the pleasure that it gives me so that's a bit of a misnomer/false description/I can't give a crap about thinking of the right word as my brain is so tired.  Anyway.  I despise when someone describes it as OC meets Mean Girls.  Hardly.  Just because of the exec producer.  Since the very first episode I have lauded it to friends and family as Mean Girls meets Cruel Intentions.  And there is nothing better than that combo.  Fuck the OC.

Hated the OC.  Watched one episode hungover and it made me feel even worse so I'm surprised the guy who brought the world Pretty Sunny People!Pretty Sunny Places! does GG.  Perhaps I'm fooling myself if I think that because the Pretty People in GG are swanning about NY it makes me and the show less shallow.

Bah.  Uncaring as of now.  GG has exponentially more fslash to enjoy than the canon 3 episode faux lesbian sweeps stunt in the OC.  I'm completely talking out of my ass here since I don't know a damn thing about the OC than anything I accidentally glean in passing.  I think I have so much hatred for the OC because I hate deeply when anything I perceive as utter shit gets so popular.  Call me crazy.

According to the Scotsman, Dame Maggie Smith has been undergoing radiation therapy for breast cancer while filming for HBP.  I am thoroughly gutted.  I've admired that woman for a very long time.

This is a ridiculous video.  It's called Ur So Gay by Katy Perry (naturally someone sent this to me.)  Not generally a fan of the new wave of female singer songwriters ala Lily Allen, Kate Nash blah blah generic crap.  It's coming off the back of some 'Chav Indie' in the UK in which people don't sing, but rather talk about ordinary things in a Manc/Cockney accent.  Urgh.  Anyway, the video's a bit funny as it uses barbie dolls to make fun of 'online networking sites' and internet dating.  For some reason, dolls and teddies acting out always amuse me.  It goes back to an old comedy show The Adam and Joe Show.  It was ages ago, but I do remember the Trainspotting with teddies sketch.  Hilarious.

My team drew with a team in a lower league tonight.  After the frantic, nerve racking, heart thumping Cup Win at the weekend, I really don't know how I allow myself to get in such a state.

--

Anthony Minghella dead at 54.  That's horrible, my dad's older than him.  I wasn't a fan as his movies aren't really my cup of tea, but very sad for family and friends.

Arthur C Clarke dead at 90.  I'm sure many of his fans are gutted but the man had a good, long life.  RIP.

I'm starting to get very angry/nervous/upset/worried about the Beijing Olympics.  I never watch them and not usually bothered with the event but the situation with Tibet is worsening and their promise to use force to quell unhappy, oppressed people is deeply troubling.  How can such a major world showpiece be staged at such a time?  IMO it should be withdrawn, but that would mean no Olympics most likely as who can you find this late in the game?  Which is a shame for the athletes who are preparing every minute right now, but such a breach of human ethical rights cannot be tolerated.

This is such a fucked world. Sigh.  I know I'm oversimplifying massively but energy is not my friend ATM.

--

The cost for the Iraq war is estimated at 845 billion.  That's insane.  That's not even a real number in my tiny mathematical brain.

--

IOY is currently being hacked, prodded, changed and spat upon (metaphorically).  May have to cut into several little blocks and may post approx 3k tonight.  But that's dependent on my judgment, which has been frazzled by football (Why do I do it?)

--

Becoming made me sob uncontrollably.  As usual.  I am so easy.  As did Surprise, Innocence, Passion and I Only Have Eyes For You.  I should just be shot and put out of my misery.  I probably would've cried at Go Fish but I skipped it to get to Becoming

Lame.
