Help a gal would you?

Can any of my Potter-inclined f-list tell me roughly when/which month the first Hogsmeade weekend usually takes place? I was thinking November?  Maybe October?  I vaguely recall Hallowe'en in Hogsmeade but there is every chance that was a fic and not, in fact, canon.

Also, did anyone greet this news with a bit of a shudder and stern shake of the head?  Just me then?  A HP prequel... When I read this I thought it would be Marauders era and I punched the air, as that's what comes to mind when prequel is mentioned.  But it's Harry-living-under-the-stairs era.  Glorious. (/sarcasm) It took me several tries to get through the first part of Philosopher's Stone with 'La la la Harry under the stairs with spiders, it's such a sad situation that you must feel for him instantly and bond and blah blah blah.'

Anyway, I don't think it be as twee or kid-aimed as the first bit of P.S but all the images in my head are of abuse!fic.  The Child Called It-Potter style.  I don't know why, but it's all I can think of.  I'm sure it'll be Harry's first bit of magic as a child or whatever because at 800 words how much can you really fit in?

EDIT:  I is dramatically wrong.  Huzzah! [info]carawj pointed me towards this article and it's set three years before Harry's born and concerns James and Sirius.  Muchos thankos.

Spent the morning with the puppy and the hose.  Bad idea.  Now soaking.

Scotland are kicking off a meaningless friendly with half a squad of players in 45 minutes (4.30 on a Friday is such a bizarre time for a friendly).  I feel that we may get gubbed.  I don't particularly want to watch right now because I'm busy writing (hence the Potter related research) but I will.  It is Scotland, after all.

Oh, and does anyone want to read Image of You in Russian?  Soon coming in German.  Shame I can't speak/read a word of either but still quite cool.

Actually, if you go here (http://www.the-leaky-cauldron.org/2008/5/29/j-k-rowling-updates-site-on-new-prequel-material), JK has said that it's set 3 years before Harry is born, so not so much under-the-stairs era. :)

Not sure on the Hogsmeade weekend question, I'm afraid! It's been a while since my last reread.

Yippee! Bloody Yahoo news. And yippee again! Thank you for that. No abuse!prequel. Now I'm interested: Just have to hope the winning bidder is a benevolent fan who shares it with the world at large. (EDIT: Oh, I see it too will be published. Must read whole article before commenting...)

Congrats on your 2:1 and it's nice to see you round LJ again! I'll warn ya, being a graduand sucks :)

It does make it a much, much shinier prospect, doesn't it? :D And yeah, I'm guilty of the commenting-before-finishing0article thing half the time too!

Thank you! It's fun being back - I'm going to attempt to keep it this way. And yeah, I'm a bit worried about the whole future thing, but still haven't really got past the immediate elation at the newfound freedom... ;)

(love the icon, btw!)

It's by [livejournal.com profile] wicked_visions. There's a whole series of funny quotes with house emblems and loads with Buffy quotes. When I found them I stocked up like I was heading for an icon drought.

Enjoy the elation :) It only last for so long. Graduation was mega hectic and mega boring. You're at Ed. Uni though aren't you? You'll probably get someone cool to cap you. We got Sir Tom Farmer. Brian Cox was getting an honorary degree that day so he was there too. I, however, sped across the stage, barely pausing for the handshake and the degree. So much effort for 20 seconds, lmao.

I'll look it up when I get home, if you don't have an answer by then.

Best I can find is in PoA - 2 weeks before term ends which is 3 weeks before Christmas. So roughly first weekend in December, I suppose. I really didn't think it was as late as that.

The Lexicon only states that the town is open to students on selected Saturdays starting on their third year.

Hm, yeah, I think they're referring to the permission slip given at the start of third year in PoA - it uses that wording.

I thought it was October/November myself...but if you're placing things in the 7th year, I'm sure you can use some leeway after the battle and such ;)

Yeah! Sod JK! :) Though first week in December works out nicely...
