It all started here (http://lynsangelic1.livejournal.com/44718.html#cutid1) as a spontaneous joke inserted into some Hr/G love. The obsession grew from there (as really, it's my only canon ship) and others have joined in with filch/mops silliness.
Honestly, if you're not filch/mops nowadays, you're obsolete in fandom :)
